A murder case shocked the Tila Mor police station area of Ghaziabad where a man had strangled his wife to death, reportedly incensed over his stepdaughter's interfaith wedding. The suspect had lured his wife to their place promising reconciliation on Holika Dahan and carried out the brutal act. The body of the woman was found in front of their house on Friday morning, and the suspect was arrested the next day after the daughter approached the police with her complaint.
The fatal incident was unearthed when locals found Renu Sharma's dead body close to Defense Ground in Tila Mor. The victim was reported to be the wife of Anil Sharma, who is a local e-rickshaw driver. Initial investigations confirmed visible marks of strangulation on her neck, indicating foul play. The police proceeded with sending the body for post-mortem examination, which determined that she was strangled to death.
After the confirmation of murder, Renu Sharma's elder daughter, Roshni Sharma, lodged a police complaint against her stepfather, accusing him of killing her mother. After intense questioning, Anil Sharma admitted to the murder.
Roshni revealed to the police that her mother had married Anil Sharma around 11 years ago after the death of her first husband, Ramu Sharma. Anil had already been abandoned by two previous wives, making Renu his third spouse. According to reports, Anil was furious about Roshni’s decision to marry outside their community, despite the family’s approval.
The stepdaughter also revealed that Anil physically attacked her mother on February 17, following a fight over wedding arrangements. The fight grew intense to the extent that Renu lost consciousness from the vicious beating. Anil left their house after the fight and stayed with his daughter from a previous relationship.
In the evening of March 13, Anil allegedly telephoned Renu, asking her to come for a reconciliation meet under the pretext of celebrating Holi. But when the two convened at Defense Colony Ground, an altercation ensued. Renu was angry that Anil had skipped his daughter's wedding, to which he allegedly retorted that they should put their differences aside and forget. She responded by uttering a contemptuous statement, which infuriated Anil even more. He later utilized her dupatta (scarf) to choke her to death before leaving the scene.
Following a thorough probe, the police located Anil Sharma at his daughter's residence and arrested him. ACP Shalimar Garden Saloni Agarwal confirmed that Anil had been arrested, and further questioning is being conducted to reveal more about the crime. The case has created an outrage in the local community, with people demanding stringent action against the accused.
